Crinoidal limestone

This is a piece of the abundant crinoidal limestone from the beach at Aberlady. This rock is so common that during the Upper Carboniferous there must have been huge forests of crinoids. Great areas of rock are composed of nothing but the disarticulated fragments of these animals.
