Productid Brachiopod

These images are of the pedicle and brachial valves of Productus sp. (possibly productus or semireticulatus). These brachiopods anchored themselves in the sediment by long fragile spines on the pedicle valve. Weathering has removed all trace of the spines from the specimen pictured above.
This is a less complete but better detailed specimen:

The stumps of the spines are visible and in places can be seen penetrating the sediment.
